The quarterback is the co-ordinator of the offense. It is his job to take the "snap" from the Center and run the play. He may either hand off to a player on a rushing play, or drop back and pass the ball to a receiver on a pass play.

The runningbacks prime responsibility is to take a hand off from the quarterback and rush upfield. On passing plays the runningback may stay in the pocket and block for the quarterback, or he may run a pass route to catch the ball from the quarterback.

A Fullback is usually a bigger version of a runningback who is used to block for a runningback on rush plays, or the quarterback on pass plays. The fullback can also rush the ball, and catch passes on pass plays.

A wide receiver will run downfield on pass routes and catch the ball on pass plays. On rush plays a receiver may continue to run routes to deceive the defense. On some reverse plays, a wide receiver will also run with the ball on a rush play.

A tight end will usually line up on the end of the offensive line. They can act as an extra blocker, or can run pass routes downfield to catch the ball.

A Tackle lines up on the edge of the offensive line. There are two Tackles on the offensive line which lines up as follows :

It is the Tackles job to protect the quarterback on passing plays, and to block for the rusher on running plays.

A Guard lines up on the inside of the Tackle and on the outside of the Center on the offensive line as follows :

It is the Guards job to protect the quarterback on passing plays, and to block for the rusher on running plays.

It is the Centers job to snap the ball to the quarterback at the start of every play. After that his job is to protect the quarterback on passing plays, and to block for the rusher on running plays.

A player with OL in Neutral Zone is an Offensive Line player. These players are very versatile and can play either Tackle, Guard or Center on the offensive line. These players are very rare in the game however.

Defensive ends will rush the quarterback in an attempt to sack him, and try to contain the rusher on running plays.

A defensive tackle will line up on the inside of the defensive line. They are suited to playing in a 4-3 defense, however they can play nose tackle in a 3-4 defense without much skill loss. They line up as follows :

They will try to contain the rush on running plays, and will rush the passer on pass plays.

A nose tackle will line up in the center of the defensive line on a 3-4 defense (or any other front with an odd number of linemen). Nose Tackles can also play at defensive tackle without much skill loss. They line up as follows :

A player with DL in Neutral Zone is a Defensive Line player. These players are very versatile and can play either Defensive End, Defensive Tackle or Nose Tackle on the defensive line. These players are very rare in the game however.

Outside linebackers line up to the outside of inside linebackers (a bit obvious). There job is to tackle the ball carrier, rush the quarterback, or drop back into pass coverage.

The Inside Linebacker has the same responsibility as the outside linebackers. They tackle the ball carrier, rush the quarterback and drop back into pass coverage.

The cornerbacks main responsibility is to drop back into pass coverage and cover the wide receivers on offense. They will also step up to contain the rush on running plays. Cornerbacks tend to line up directly opposite the receiver they are covering.

The strong safety mostly keys on either the tight end or the running back on pass plays and will step up to stop the rush on running plays.

The free safety generally acts as the last line of defense on pass plays, dropping back into pass coverage. A free safety will step up to stop the rush on running plays.

A player with DB in Neutral Zone is a Defensive Back player. These players are very versatile and can play either cornerback, strong safety or free safety in the secondary. These players are very rare in the game however.

A kicker scores points by completing a field goal (3 points) or an extra point attepmt (1 point after each touchdown). He is also responsible for kicking off to the opposition after each score or at the start of a game or half.

On 4th down, when a team is not in field goal range it is the punters job to punt the ball as far downfield when turning the ball over to the opposition. A good punter can win the battle of field position for your team and is a valuble member of your roster.

The kick returners in Neutral Zone are made up of players from other positions. They will receive the oppositions kickoffs and try advance the ball as far upfield as possible to give their team the best field position, or even score themselves.

The punt returners in Neutral Zone are made up of players from other positions. They will receive the oppositions punts and try advance the ball as far upfield as possible to give their team the best field position, or even score themselves.

Special Teams (Small) are made up of smaller players in your roster. They will perform duties on special teams like coverage, or attempting to block kicks. Special teams players are usually made up of players lower down in your depth order to give them vital game experience.

Special Teams (Big) are made up of the larger players in your roster. They will perform duties on special teams like blocking for a return, or blocking for field goals and punts.
